Usually at this time of year I like to start the season off with a nice little rant about my fellow Fantasy Footballers. But today I take a step back from that to share my true displeasure with the Fox Sports website.

What occurred yesterday is obscene. For a site to be unable to handle the traffic of its REGISTERED membership is ridiculous. What amazes me even more is the fact it happened in WEEK 2. If it was an issue of not enough servers, that would have been apparent last week. If they hosted their servers (or some portion of those servers) in the path of Ike, I would expect there would have been a Business continuity plan. Companies far smaller than Fox have such plans, and execute on them regularly.

I initially thought that this may have been caused by the stream of casual players that may have only been learning of the change in the Ravens and Texans game caused by the damage to the stadium in Houston. But that would not have caused the type of prolonged outage experienced on Sunday.

How many FFB players were unable to change rosters this weekend? How many head to head match-ups were decided because one player was not able to update their rosters? How will you feel if you were one of those affected and miss the playoffs by a single game? My only solace this week is I am getting beat with the team I planned to field.

Fox needs to remember that the main reason for hosting a Fantasy Football service is for the eyeballs glued to your service. As I write this entry to the right is an ad for Auto Insurance. These companies are paying for the right for me to see there ad, and on Sundays I am sure they pay a premium for that opportunity to familiarize me with their brand, I may even make a purchase on the spot. How many angry advertisers pulled out this weekend? Fox is also betting that I become a regular viewer of the entire Fox sports site, returning between Sundays, frequenting their advertisers and contributing to their overall revenue stream.

Of course this is not me being a shill for Corporate America. Rather, I am painting the picture that media outlets the size and scope of Fox Sports cannot let a situation like what occurred last week happen again this season. Our league has been hosted by Fox for the past three years and this is not the first time the site has been inaccessible, and overall it has been far less reliable that CBS Sportsline or Yahoo.

Step up to the plate Fox, your players, readers, and advertisers have choices.

Jets fans are smiling this morning with the acquisition of Favre, for reports of a conditional 4th round pick. The Jets have made quite a few upgrades on both sides of the ball this off-season and this one has certainly made the biggest splash. This bodes well for the entire offense. Wide receivers Coles and Cotchery as well as Tight Ends Chris Baker and Rookie Dustin Keeler should see more action. Favre’s strong arm is just what the Jets need in the windy Meadowlands. The ability to get the ball down field should open things up for Thomas Jones as Defenders will not be able to cheat toward the line of scrimmage.

Fantasy Impact: Big for Cotchery, Coles, and T. Jones

Favre will play with a chip on his shoulder but do not expect the great season he had a year ago.

As part of our ongoing wall to wall coverage of Chad Johnson foxsports.com reports he will arrive at camp on time, but likely not participate immediately as he continues to recover his surgically repaired ankle. Johnson has stated he wants to get past the unsuccessful attempt to force a trade this off-season and is concerned about his treatment by the fans.

The reality is that it is likely that the fans will not treat Johnson well early in the season, but if he performs as he has in the past they will get past this ugly off-season. Johnson should look in the mirror and realize the potential he has with the Bengals. With Carson Palmer at the helm and TJ Houshmanzadeh acting as the alternative threat on the outside, he will get his opportunity to be like a “Rock Star” (see: NFL:In Just One Play).

Draft him early Fantasy owners.

The Redskins defense got on step better today, or at least one step smoother by acquiring Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant is now part of the Washington Redskins, a move likely made necessary by the injury to current DE Philip Daniels who has a ACL injury.

Reports state that the Dolphins will receive a 2nd round pick in 2009 and a 6th rounder in 2010. These picks are big for a team undergoing a rebuilding effort. Taylor and GM Bill Parcells were not a good fit together and this move will be best for all concerned.

Taylor 33 had 11 sacks last season and has 117 for his career.
